IBM Promises Faster Speech Transcription You Will Never Notice

The claim: IBM announced the release of Granite Speech 5.0, an open weights audio model designed to transcribe, translate, and attribute speaker audio more accurately and quickly than previous iterations.

The reality: Developers running a $0.006 per minute Whisper API on an AWS instance will not migrate their pipeline to host an IBM weights file just for a marginal benchmark bump.
